The new technologies viz. Geographic Information System (GIS), Global Positioning System (GPS) and satellite-based Remote Sensing (RS) have greatly improved our ability to collect, store, analyse and utilise geographical information. GIS is nothing but the spatial hub of Information Technology. GIS is emerging as one of the best technologies to understand and solve problems associated with a geographic dimension. GIS, GPS and Remote Sensing have a variety of uses right from agriculture, environment, geology, health, land information system, military, urban and rural development, transportation, telecommunication, power, water resource, natural and man made disasters, oil and natural gas, banking and insurance, business geographic, mobile mapping, etc.
