BA-LLB (Integrated)

The BA, LLB Integrated Degree Course is for students who want to become experts on law and social sciences and hold responsible jobs in the society. They will go on to become individuals with an all round knowledge in the legal framework. The academic study of law will give an insight into the legal systems on which much of our day-to-day life is based. Students will gain a broad and thorough understanding of the prevailing law system of our country and have access to a great platform for a bright career in law. There is no part of a civilized society where law does not apply. So this degree prepares you for a wide range of sectors, viz. government, business, politics, finance, human rights, media, international trade, international relations, families, property, crime, war, punishment and the list go on.

For several decades, getting a Law degree after 10+2 schooling has taken up 6 years. The first three years to get a BA or B.Com or BBA followed by another three years for LLB. The 5 year integrated Law program after 10+2 has enabled law students to develop and hone skills across a wide spectrum. Here, you get to pursue two reputed degrees at the same time. If you were to take both the courses separately, it would take a minimum of 6 years. Thus, by taking this course, you save yourself an entire academic year.

Course Goals

The course goal of a BA-LLB (Integrated) program is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both business administration and law.Acquire a deep understanding of legal concepts and principles related to various areas of law, including contract law, tort law, criminal law, intellectual property law, and corporate law.

1. How long does a BA - LLB integrated course take?
Same as BBA.LL.B, the course is an integration of Bachelor of Arts where students acquire knowledge on the subjects like Political Science, Sociology, etc., and hence, it takes 5 years time.
2. What are eligibility criteria for BA - LLB integrated course?

As per the Rules of the Bar Council of India (BCI), the following are the eligible criteria:

  • Candidate must have passed Senior Secondary Examination (+2) through regular schooling.
  • BCI has stipulated minimum percentage as 45% of total marks in case of General Category applicants, 42% for OBC category and 40% of the total marks in case of SC and ST applicants.
  • BCI has decided to have upper age limit for 5 years integrated courses as 22 years.
3. Which is the better course BBA LLB or BA LLB?
As mentioned earlier, at the end of both the courses, candidates will be qualified Bachelor of Law and are eligible to appear in various jobs and other higher education related to law. The prefix used in the courses, i.e., BA or BBA denotes specific specializations. A candidate having BA.LL.B degree is presumed to have sound knowledge of subjects such as Political Science, Sociology, etc., whereas in case of BBA.LL.B, a candidate is presumed to have knowledge of the subjects like Business Administration, Oeganizational Behaviour, etc. Though such specializations in majority cases do not have any impact on career.
4. What is the career scope of BA LLB?

Lawyers : In this job profile, one needs to advise and represent clients in civil as well as criminal cases. Lawyers present cases in the court of law and take part in all proceedings and hearings.

Solicitors : In such a job profile, an individual usually specializes in specific area of law like taxation, litigation, family or property. Solicitors offer advice to private as well as commercial clients.

Advocate : In such a job profile one needs to do research work to get factual data as well as physical evidence to support their claims. Apart from this, other responsibilities allocated to advocates include scrutinizing and drafting contracts.

Legal Advisors : Candidates opting in such a job profile are also lawyers who specialize in a specific field of Law. Government as well as large organizations and companies hire legal advisors. The main task of a legal advisor is to protect their clients from any legal implications or consequences.

5. How can I apply for a BA LLB integrated course?
Different Universities adopt their own criteria for the admission in the course. For instance National Law Universitites conduct Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). Here at Sangam University, the candidate after qualify the eligibility criteria of BCI has to go thorugh the norms of the University prescribed for admission.
